Built for phones: a better job list, working photos, and accessibility

The screens your team uses on the job now work properly on a phone. Photo evidence now saves and shows as it should.

Most field work happens on a phone, one-handed, often in a doorway. We tested the field screens on a phone-sized screen, by touch, and fixed what got in the way.

A job list made for phones

  • On a phone, the task board now shows a card for each job, with its status, due date and checklist progress, and a full-width Start or Mark complete button.
  • Previously the list was a squeezed table, and the Start button sat off-screen.
  • Buttons, checklist rows and links are larger and easier to tap. The whole checklist row is now tappable, not just the small box.

Photo evidence now works

  • Fixed: photos uploaded to a job were saved but never appeared on the job. They now appear straight away.
  • Take or choose photos from your phone, and they show on the job within seconds.
  • Photos are private to your account. Each link to a photo expires after an hour.
  • Managers can remove a photo, and are asked to confirm first so an accidental tap doesn't delete evidence.

Accessibility

We checked the operator, field and owner screens against the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility guidelines, at phone and desktop sizes, and fixed what we found:

  • Red status labels and buttons such as "Blocked", "Urgent" and "Send back" are now easier to read.
  • Every screen in the app now marks its main content, so screen-reader and keyboard users can skip straight to it.
  • Photos and icon buttons now have names that screen readers can announce.
